National Pool Lifeguard Qualification
The National Pool Lifeguard Qualification (NPLQ) is the industry standard qualification for staff supervising swimming pools, certificated through the Royal Life Saving Society UK it is undertaken over a course lasting a minimum of 36 hours. AED training can also be added.
Who should attend?
Staff who are responsible for the supervision of swimming pools at venues whose risk assessment and compliance with the HSE document Managing Health and safety in swimming pools HSG 179 indicates the need for lifeguards. Need help regarding the need for lifeguards? – Please contact us for advice.
Those seeking to gain employment within the sport and recreation industry.
Pre-requisites:
- at least 16 years of age at the start of the course;
- be able to swim a distance of 50 metres in 1 minute;
- be able to swim 100 metres on their front and back;
- be able to climb out unaided from the pool;

It is a legal requirement that lifeguards undertake ongoing training - we can offer that if you don’t have a Trainer Assessor at your site, please ask for a quotation.
